Accessibility statement for The King’s Awards for Voluntary Service Website

This website is run by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS). We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:

  • change colours, contrast levels and fonts
  • zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen
  • navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
  • navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
  • listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of NVDA and VoiceOver)

How accessible this website is

We know some parts of this website are not fully accessible:

For nominator users:

  • Ineligible nominations messaging may appear as input errors 
  • Web page titles and meta titles do not include page specific descriptions

For lieutenant users:

  • Some layout tables are used for visual presentation

  • Some forms do not include a “submit” button rather they use a continue button that may be confusing for keyboard users.

Disproportionate burden

Completing form content 

For all use types, form validation error messages are generic for all fields.

For nominators and lieutenants the wysiwyg text editor does not have a focus state for keyboard navigation.

We’ve assessed the cost of adding in custom error messages for all fields as well as replacing the wysiwyg text editor. We believe that doing so now would be a disproportionate burden within the meaning of the accessibility regulations. We will make another assessment when the supplier contract is up for renewal, likely to be in 12 months.

Content that’s not within the scope of the accessibility regulations

Some of our PDFs are non-essential to our users as they also exist in HTML form. For example, we have PDFs with nomination form and local assessment form information.
